1. It's embarrassing on a phone
Open your site on your own mobile. Pinch-to-zoom text, buttons too small to tap, menus that won't open — if any of these are true, you're turning away the majority of your visitors, because that's where most of them are. This alone justifies the conversation.
2. It loads slowly enough to notice
Count the seconds on a fresh visit over 4G. If you notice yourself waiting, your customers noticed too — and left. Speed problems run deep; they're rarely fixed by wishful thinking (see why slow pages lose customers).

3. Nobody can tell what you do in five seconds
Show your homepage to someone who doesn't know your business and give them five seconds. If they can't say what you do and where, neither can your customers. That's a structure and messaging problem, not a coat of paint.
4. The copyright date is three years old
An outdated footer, old prices, former staff, services you no longer offer — each one tells visitors the business might be dormant. If keeping content current feels impossible, the underlying site is working against you.
5 to 7: no enquiries, no way to enquire, and you can't edit it
Traffic but no enquiries means the journey is broken. No obvious phone number or quote route means there is no journey. And needing a developer to change a phone number means you're locked out of your own asset. Any one of these three is redesign territory — our redesign vs new website guide helps you judge what comes next, and a redesign done properly protects the Google visibility you already have.
